Guided Tree Tour Hike (15 May 2021)
This is a FUNDRAISER. A portion of the registration fee supports restoration projects in Green Lawn Cemetery.
Join aborist Rick Frantz for a guided tree tour hike in Green Lawn Cemetery. He’ll discuss interesting facts about the trees, historical context, and medicinal uses. Before the Green Lawn Cemetery was established in 1849 cattle grazed across a mixed oak forest with gently rolling hills. Remnants of that native old-growth forest remain to this day, with several trees over 200 years old, beneficiaries of incidental conservation. Inspect these majestic trees up close and explore some of the 112 species that have been recently surveyed and mapped in Ohio’s second largest cemetery.
Rick Frantz graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Natural Resources, majoring in Urban Forestry. He has worked in mapping for the City of Dublin. Rick has recently worked with Greenlawn Cemetery to catalog and map over 5,000 trees, creating a user-friendly tree inventory for the organization. Rick has served as a Friends of Goodale Park Trustee and volunteer arborist since 2004. In his spare time, Rick is an avid marathoner, having completed over 20 marathons!
