Backpacking – Laurel Highlands (PA) Fall Colors Thru Hike
October 12-16 (+ night of Oct 11 to be ready for early shuttle)
70 miles – 5 days – 4 nights (+ 1 night before hike to be ready for early shuttle)
Complete a thru hike just 4 hours from Columbus! Fall colors, fall views, cool temps, well-maintained established backcountry campsites/shelters with privies, water (requires treatment), fire-rings/fireplaces and plentiful wood. Moderate to advanced, self-outfitted and self-provisioned hikers in good physical shape only. Limit 8.
Costs = $20 registration fee for COP insurance and approximately $80 for shared cost of shuttle, Ohiopyle SP campsite night before, 4 campsites along the trail.

Evening BEFORE Hike (Oct 11)
Given early start will need to drive (approx 4hrs) and camp overnight in Ohiopyle state park.
Day 1 (Oct 12)
Early start – park and meet at Wilderness Voyageurs (outfitter in Ohiopyle, PA) at 7:30am for early shuttle
Shuttle to drop us off at start at PA56 Trailhead (70m)
13.1 miles (including 1500 ft vertical climb over first 3 miles) to Rt 271 Campsite
Day 2 (Oct 13) – 18.7 miles to Turnpike Campsite
Day 3 (Oct 14) – 14.2 miles to Grindle Ridge Campsite
Day 4 (Oct 15) – 17.5 miles to Ohiopyle shelter Campsite
Day 5 (Oct 16) – 6.5 miles to terminus/end at Wilderness Voyageurs (outfitter in Ohiopyle, PA) where our cars will be parked.
