These are fun; fast paced introductory classes, which follow the American Canoe Association’s “QuickStart” format. The course covers safety topics, types of gear/boats, clothing and strokes. The class is taught by ACA certified instructors and qualified assistants.
The land-based portion of the class will be held indoors at the COP office on Bethel Road on the Monday prior to the Saturday outdoor/on-the-water class. Participants must attend the indoor session; material covered in this class will not be covered in the outdoor class.
Sunday’s Trip Class (this is a separate fee class, not part of the “QuickStart” class) will allow those who took the class on Saturday to learn about planning for a short basic trip and to venture out on their first excursion with the benefit of qualified instructors traveling with them. The QuickStart class is a pre-requisite for the Trip & Rescue Classes.
The Rescue Class will involve dry land and on-the-water skills.
Mandatory Classroom Session is held at the COP Office, 1525 Bethel Road. map
