Essentials of River Kayaking Class
Saturday, June 8th Plan on a full day, 8-10 hours
Want to explore river paddling, but not quite ready for whitewater? Curious about back ferries and eddy turns but too shy to ask? Essentials of River Kayaking (ERK) is for you! This class introduces the skills you need to take charge of your boat and travel safely on Class I rivers. You’ll learn how to spot and avoid river hazards and how to use different river features to make
paddling easy, relaxing, and fun. Plan on a full day: ERK usually lasts for 8-10 hours. It’s the weather that decides where we’ll paddle, though it will be somewhere local. ERK is a great class for anyone who wants to do day trips on easier moving water, but it is not a beginner’s class. Before taking this class, students must complete COP Kayak I, COP QuickStart Kayak, or an
equivalent class. The cost for the class is $65. Kayaks are provided, along with other essential gear. Before signing up for this class, students should be comfortable performing a wet exit and should have some very basic kayaking experience. See registration form
in the May issue.
