Some more Southern Paddling!  We will leaving March 24th for a week of paddling in Southern Georgia.   This year, I am hoping the we can do a few days on the Satilla River, and finish the week with some paddling in the Okefenokee Swamp.  As always, our plans can be upset with sudden rise in rivers, so I will have a backup plan in my pocket.

We will leave Columbus on March 24th, and return by April 2nd.

Little Beaver Creek Pagan Paddle, Class I Trip

     April 22 – 23,  2017

Well, the annual Pagan paddle has is coming up soon. We're postponing it until the weekend after Easter.

Flowing through some of Ohio’s wildest and most scenic areas, Little Beaver Creek in Columbiana County was the first in Ohio to be designated a Wild River.  This is a great springtime paddle!

We’ll do our leisurely Saturday morning breakfast, then make our way to the put-in, shuttle the vehicles and be on the water around 11:30 am.  We might paddle from the park to the Ohio River . . . or start upstream of the park and paddle the 10 or so miles back.  It all depends on the water level . . . and our collective mood.  Sunday morning, the pace is even more leisurely.  Be prepared to be flexible.

The paddling is mostly flat water with the occasional riffle and perhaps a Class II if the water level is right (nothing really challenging).  The scenery is unbelievable, the camping fun, the camaraderie abundant and the there will be plenty of stories around the campfire!

Get over there early (Friday) and take a hike – there are some nice trails along the river and through the park.  Check out the restored lock from the Sandy and Beaver Canal, the park's nature center, the pioneer village and Gaston's Mill.

We’ll be camping at the state park Friday and Saturday nights, so we won’t be carrying any camping gear on board (just dry clothes and lunch!).  Little Beaver Creek State Park is a 3.5 hour drive from Columbus.  The weather is expected to be perfect, so plan on going!

What better way to celebrate Earth Day but on a beautiful river in the mountains. Possible options are Dry Fork, Cheat Narrows, or Casselman depending on water levels.  If you are interested, please contact Bill Ward 419-674-8210 botnbill@gmail.com or Brent Lehman oc1wrat@gmail.com
