Advanced Backpacking School
Three to six hour class covering pre-trip planning, getting your equipment weight as low as possible, light weight cooking and food, Leave no trace, staying safe, and backpacking with electronics ( digital cameras, GPS, satellite phones, laptops, and solar panels ). Instruction geared toward trips of five to twenty days.
In interested in taking this class, contact the backpacking activity leader Lisa Drugan, backpack@outdoor-pursuits.org.
A class will be scheduled if there is enough interest.
Other Classes we would like to hold, if we can get the volunteers to run them:
Basic snow travel for alpine backpackers. This class would cover the basics of using ice axes and crampons. We have several possible instructors, but need the snow.
Introduction to River Crossing and Canyoneering. We offered this in the past and all agreed it was worthwhile for anyone contemplating trips that cross rivers rather than using bridges, and also for anyone heading to canyon country.
