The Hiking Program

Planned hikes are scheduled each month leading us to many familiar places and to new destinations. All of hikes are lead by volunteers.

Winter months we will offer mid-week night hikes, followed by dinner. In different parts of Columbus and surrounding neighborhoods. Hikes will last about 1 to 1 ½ hours. Some of the neighborhood hikes will include Clintonville, Victorian Village, Grandview and Worthington as well as other surrounding areas.

Our weekend’s hikes will take us to State Parks, State Forest, Metro Parks and other parks. Hikes on the weekends will vary in length. Hikes will be anywhere from 5 miles to 15 miles. Most hikes will depart from Columbus area in mid morning and return back home late afternoon or early evening. Our popular hikes will take us to the Hocking Hill’s area to visit Conkle Hollow State Nature Preserve, Rock House, Rock Bridge State Nature Preserve and Old Man’s Cave. Or to Great Seal State Park, Tar Hollow State Park, Clear Creek Metro Park, Mohican State Park, Taft Reserve, Dawes Arboretum plus many other interesting areas.

We will offer weekend hikes and overnight camping trips (you will need to provide your own camping gear). Trips will be offered late spring through late fall. Trips may include John Bryan State Park, Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve, Salt Fork State Park, Barkcamp State Park, Dysart Woods State Nature Preserve, Punderson State Park, Quail Hollow State Park and possibilities of other areas in Ohio.

If anyone is interested in leading a hike to his or her favorite area, please contact the hiking activity leader, old and new leaders are welcome.

In the fall we will offer a hiking class that will cover the basic of hiking, including proper clothing, footwear, ten essentials and where to hike, plus much more.
