Will you help COP pay for bike tool
kiosk education programming?

Donate Now

COP has applied for a grant through the Ohio Bicycle Foundation to help us pay for a bike tool kiosk education program focused on knowing your way around a tool kiosk. The grant will pay for 50% of the total $1800 amount. We will need to seek funding for the other 50% through other means, including donations.

What's a tool kiosk? A tool kiosk includes all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. The tools are securely attached to the stand with stainless steel cables and tamper-proof fasteners. Hanging the bike from the hanger arms allows the pedals and wheels to spin freely while making adjustments.

You can check out different kiosks along the Ohio to Erie Trail in London (Thanks Phat Daddy's!), at Wilson Road Park, and behind the Berlin Fire Station in Delaware.

    Class IV Lower Gauley - Kayak or Raft - September 22 & 23, 2018

Join Mary on one of her favorite rivers, the Lower Gauley!  This is a class IV trip.  If you have not paddled the Lower Gauley before, you must contact the trip organizer, Mary Spikowski, mspikowski@msn.com or (614) 561-5561.

Janice Hogrefe has offered the possibility of running a raft this weekend.  If you are interested in rafting, please text her at (614) 747-0400.  Also, if there is not enough interest to fill an entire raft with paddlers, there may be one Shredder seat available (A Shredder is like a 2-person raft.) Mary has more details on that.

Camping options include the dog-friendly Summersville Lake Retreat, the dog-friendly Tawney Farm, or Battle Run Campground which does not accept dogs. We will decide where to camp based on desire of the group (or camp at different campgrounds based on personal preference). The general plan is to eat out on Saturday evening and eat in camp Sunday morning, but anyone is free to cook at camp Saturday night or eat breakfast out Sunday morning.

You have the option to drive over Friday evening and camp or drive over Saturday morning and meet at the Swiss take out by 10:30 am.  Please contact Mary and let her know your plans.  Mary Spikowski (614) 561-5561 mspikowski@msn.com

    Class IV Lower Gauley - October 6 & 7, 2018

    And betcha by Gauley, wow
You're the river that I've been waiting for forever
And ever will my love for it keep growin' strong
    Keep growin' strong

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPdEL-FaVzc

If the Stylistics were paddlers, the Gauley would be one of their favorite rivers. It sure is one of mine. And, rain or not, it's running this weekend! Your tax dollars at play©®℗™ᵉᵗᵓ!

The Lower Gauley is a big-water technical river and is a significant step up from the Lower Yough. But, if you're paddling the harder, adventurous lines there or have paddled the New River Canyon reasonably confidently, this could be your year to first kayak the Gauley (mine was not that long ago, in 1990). Meet at the NPS takeout at 10:30 on Saturday and Sunday. I will be camping at Tawney Farms http://tawneyfarm.com/ near the put-in. Dinner out. Email or text me if you're planning on going. Call me if I have not boated with you before.

    Class III Lower Yough - November 10 & 11, 2018

Fall is a beautiful time to paddle the Yough. The crowds are gone and so are the shuttle-boarding riots at the takeout. Well the buses are gone too, but we can drive down to and park in their area so it's all good. The weather will be crisp and clear (I hope) and the Yough will be cold as always. Other area rivers possible, too. Camping in a private camp near Draketown (ya been there!), breakfast and dinner out or at camp as desired. Email or text me if you're planning on going. Call me if I have not boated with you before (plus you really need to get out more!).
