    • Lower Yough
    Lower Yough Class III+
    June 22-23
If you paddle a hard boat, just graduated from KII School and want to test all of those new boating skills out, or you just want to paddle, this two-day trip may be for you. The Lower Youghiogheny River in Southwestern Pennsylvania is a tributary of the Monongahela and at 2ft on the gage is mostly class III with a couple of class III+ rapids thrown in for fun. We normally stop below Swimmers rapid to eat lunch, relax or play on the flat spinning wave.
We'll most likely stay at the Ohiopyle campground, though this could change. (For first timers, I'll provide directions closer to the trip date). Plan on bringing lunch for both days on the river. Breakfast and dinners will be eat in or eat out depending on your preference/budget. The weather in June is mostly warm but weather can be unpredictable and bring much cooler temperatures, so be prepared to layer for a variety of conditions.

Tuesdays @ 6:30 PM, June through August
    Alum Creek Boating Event (ACBE)
For years many boaters have made the pilgrimage out to Alum Creek Beech every Tuesday @ 6:30 PM, June through August, to practice strokes, rolls, and rescues. This year we will continue to trek out to the beech every Tuesday, but we have added some fun new events. There will be a photo contest, demos of common mistakes swimmers make, information on best trips to paddle based on your skill level, kayak soccer, a raffle, prizes from The Outdoor SourceTM, and more.
The Outdoor SourceTM will also come out with some of their latest equipment from their new Polaris location for you to try out. Check COP’s new Meetup.com site for event dates.
All skill levels are welcome with participants providing their own boats, although Outdoor Source will provide boats and equipment on some demo days. Participants are required to sign a standard COP liability release at the event. ACBEs are at the NORTH end of Alum Creek Lake State Park Beach. This is the part of the beach furthest from the dam on the west side of the reservoir.
Subscribe to Yahoo Group COPBOAT, Facebook, and COP’s new Meetup.com http://www.meetup.com/Columbus_Outdoor_Pursuits/ for more information and last minute updates.

    • Downtown Columbus
    Red White and Boom
    Wednesday July 3

We've reserved the best seats in the house! Leave the crowds behind and enjoy the largest fireworks display in the midwest from a prime spot on the river.

Once again COP will be providing canoes, kayaks, and rafts from which to enjoy the downtown display. Pre-registration with payment is required to reserve equipment for this popular event; see application in this month’s newsletter.

If you are bringing your own equipment,no need to register with us, but note that PFD’s are required, boats must be licensed and registered, and lights are required after dark.

The launch site is the Lower Olentangy Boat Ramp at the west end of Nationwide Blvd. Come early to navigate the street closures and beat the crowds.
We also need volunteers to help wrangle equipment before and after the event.

Bob Dorwart Lower Yough Memorial Paddle (class III/IV)
    Friday, July 5
Join one of Bob's closest and dearest friends Butch Weaver and Butch's girls for a day of honoring and remembering Bob Dorwart. Bring your stories, flowers to fill the river with memories, rubber snakes for the camp site, quiet time in the morning bird watching over coffee and left over (non-refridgerated) crock pot dinner for breakfast........This year's Butch-O-Rama will be bitter sweet as we remember a great man who touched so many lives both on and off the river.
For those boating: We plan on putting on the river at 10:00 sharp! If you are joining us, be prepared to meet and run shuttle at 9:00.
In the tradition of paddling with Bob, shuttle will be run at 9:00 and the trip will put on promptly at 10:00 and travel down river with limited playing and well, continue on without knowing where you may have ventured off to.
Bring lunch and depending on how large the group is, we'll pick a spot along the way to eat (wrap roll ups were Bob and Butch's traditional fixings.)
For those non-boaters: come see us off at the put in, meet us at Cucumber, Railroad or Swimmer's. Walk or bike along the river and shed a tear, share a memory or put a flower in the river. Shuttle bunnies are also welcome!
Want to just stop by and say hello? That would be great too! Contact us for details regarding our camping.
Please contact either Butch Weaver butch_weaver@hotmail.com or Toni Hartley toni_hartley@hotmail.com to confirm your memory and honor paddle spot or for more information.

    • Lower Yough
    Lower Youghiogheny trip (class III+)
    August 10-11(Sat,Sun), 2013
Time to have fun!
(I'll provide directions closer to the trip date). Plan on bringing lunch for both days on the river. Breakfast and dinners will be eat in or eat out depending on your preference/budget. The weather in June is mostly warm but weather can be unpredictable and bring much cooler temperatures, so be prepared to layer for a variety of conditions.
